Safari Overview

This extraordinary 4-day safari is timed to coincide with one of the world’s most remarkable natural spectacles the Great Migration, a seasonal event that takes place only at specific times of the year within the Serengeti ecosystem. During this special period, millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles move across the plains in search of fresh grazing, creating an awe-inspiring wildlife experience found nowhere else on Earth.

Follow the migration route as the massive herds travel from the Western Corridor of the Serengeti toward the Northern Serengeti, where thousands of animals gather before the dramatic Mara River crossings. This is a season of intense wildlife action, with lions, leopards, cheetahs, and crocodiles taking advantage of the endless movement of prey, providing exceptional game-viewing opportunities.

Beyond the migration, your journey includes a visit to the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary concentration of wildlife, including the endangered black rhino.

Combining luxury accommodations, expert guiding, and carefully planned game drives, this safari offers a rare chance to witness nature at its most dramatic. The Great Migration is not a year-round event in every part of the Serengeti, its location changes with the seasons, making this itinerary a unique opportunity to be in the right place at the right time.

Join us for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure and experience the legendary Great Migration in Northern Tanzania, the only place on Earth where this phenomenal natural event unfolds on such an epic scale. Witness vast herds stretching to the horizon, thrilling predator-prey encounters, and the untamed beauty of the Serengeti during one of nature’s most extraordinary seasons.

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) – Central Serengeti National Park

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), guests are welcomed by our professional safari guide and assisted with a seamless transfer toward the northern safari circuit. The journey begins through the lively city of Arusha, the tourism capital of Tanzania, where the rhythm of everyday life blends with the anticipation of the wild landscapes ahead.

From Arusha, the route continues toward the Ngorongoro highlands and onward via the Loduare Gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, before descending into the vast plains leading to Serengeti National Park—the legendary stage of the Great Migration.

Along the way, there is a rewarding opportunity for an introductory game drive, offering early sightings of wildlife as the landscape opens into the endless savannah. This transition into the Serengeti ecosystem often reveals the first impressions of the migration corridors, where herds move across the plains in search of fresh grazing, closely followed by predators.

The central sector of the Serengeti, known as Seronera, is particularly notable for its permanent water sources and exceptional year-round wildlife density. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, and large herds of antelope are commonly encountered here, making it one of the most reliable wildlife-viewing regions in East Africa.

As the day concludes, guests proceed to their lodge within or near the central Serengeti, settling into the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic ecosystems, where the Great Migration and resident wildlife define the rhythm of life on the plains.

Central Serengeti – Western Serengeti – Northern Serengeti

After breakfast in the Central Serengeti, you set out on a full-day journey through one of the most dramatic wildlife corridors in Africa. The drive begins across the sweeping plains of Central Serengeti, where endless grasslands stretch to the horizon and predators often linger near grazing herds. As you progress westward, the landscape gradually transforms into the lush riverine habitat of the Western Corridor, a region shaped by the lifeline of the Grumeti River.

This section of the park is especially significant during the migration season, as vast numbers of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle gather and move through the area on their instinctive journey north. Around this time of year, the western and central corridors often hold large concentrations of wildlife, creating a powerful sense of anticipation for what lies ahead. While June marks the early phase of the peak migration period and the herds may still be dispersed or in transition, the movement itself is already underway often visible in scattered but immense groups pushing steadily toward the northern plains.

The drive continues northward through increasingly open terrain, offering continuous game viewing en route. Elephants, giraffes, lions, and an array of plains game can be encountered along the way, all set against the vast and untamed beauty of the Serengeti ecosystem.

By late afternoon, you arrive in the Northern Serengeti, a remote and remarkably pristine region known for its exclusivity and raw wilderness feel. Here, the focus turns toward the legendary Mara River system stage to one of nature’s most extraordinary events: the Great Migration river crossings. While crossings are never guaranteed on a single day, being in this region places you at the heart of the most phenomenal wildlife spectacle on earth, where the drama of survival unfolds in real time.

You settle into camp as the light fades, surrounded by the sounds of the wild, in anticipation of the extraordinary moments this region is known for.

Northern Serengeti Game Drive – Central Serengeti

After breakfast, depart for a morning game drive in the Northern Serengeti, one of the most wildlife-rich and scenically diverse sections of the park. This region is particularly renowned during the Great Migration season for the dramatic Mara River crossings, where vast herds of wildebeest and zebra confront fast-flowing waters and lurking crocodiles in one of nature’s most intense spectacles.

The game drive will take you through a varied landscape of rolling savannahs, riverine forests, acacia woodlands, and open plains. These habitats support a high concentration of resident wildlife, offering excellent year-round game viewing. Expect opportunities to observe elephants, giraffes, buffalo, lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, and a wide variety of antelope species, alongside an impressive diversity of birdlife.

In the late morning, begin a gradual journey back toward Central Serengeti, continuing game viewing along the way. The route itself serves as an extended safari experience, with frequent wildlife sightings possible en route. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon, where you can relax and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Central Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

After an early breakfast in Central Serengeti, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, traveling through scenic highland landscapes en route to the crater rim. Upon arrival, descend approximately 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day game drive in one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife sanctuaries.

The Ngorongoro Crater, often described as the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, forms a natural enclosure that supports an exceptionally dense and diverse population of wildlife. Within its varied habitats ranging from open grasslands and acacia woodlands to freshwater lakes and swamps you may encounter black rhino, lions, elephants, buffalo, hyenas, wildebeest, zebras, and a wide variety of resident and migratory bird species. This unique ecosystem offers consistent and rewarding game viewing throughout the year.

After a picnic lunch inside the crater, continue with an afternoon game drive before ascending the crater walls in the late afternoon. Begin the drive back to Arusha, arriving in the early evening, where the safari concludes.
