Arusha National Park Safari Walk and Acclimatization Experience
Your second day is dedicated to a carefully planned acclimatization and sightseeing experience in the beautiful Arusha National Park, one of Tanzania’s hidden gems for safari lovers and nature enthusiasts.
This day offers an extraordinary blend of safari, walking adventure, and altitude preparation. You will explore the park’s diverse ecosystems, from dense montane forests to open grasslands and volcanic landscapes. Highlights include the world-famous Momella Lakes, the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater, and close-up views of the majestic Mount Meru.
As you walk through the park with your expert guide, you may encounter giraffes, waterbucks, bushbucks, buffaloes, colobus monkeys, and numerous bird species, making this an ideal combination of wildlife safari and mountain trekking preparation.

Shira Camp
Londorossi Gate to Shira 1 Camp
Your Kilimanjaro adventure officially begins today as you depart Arusha early in the morning with packed lunch boxes and head toward Londorossi Gate, the gateway to the Northern Circuit Route.
After completing park registration formalities, you will continue by vehicle to the Morum Barrier trailhead, where your trek starts. Today’s hike is relatively short and gentle, allowing your body to begin adjusting to the altitude while you enjoy the vast beauty of the Shira Plateau.
The trek to Shira 1 Camp takes approximately two to three hours through moorland vegetation and dramatic volcanic scenery. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a freshly prepared hot dinner and spend the night under the stars at approximately 3,610 meters (11,600 feet).

Moir Camp
Shira 1 Camp to Moir Camp
Today’s trek takes you deeper into Kilimanjaro’s alpine wilderness as you cross the remarkable Shira Plateau, one of the mountain’s most scenic sections.
The route gradually ascends eastward through stunning landscapes of giant heathers, tussock grasslands, and volcanic formations before entering the alpine desert zone. This section offers breathtaking views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding plains.
After approximately five to six hours of trekking, you will arrive at Moir Camp, a peaceful and less crowded campsite ideal for acclimatization and rest. This stage is crucial for increasing summit success rates.

Pofu Camp
Moir Camp to Pofu Camp
This day presents one of the most visually rewarding sections of the Northern Circuit. After breakfast, the trail climbs steadily out of Moir Valley, with an optional acclimatization hike to Little Lent Hill for even better altitude adjustment.
The route then curves around Kilimanjaro’s remote northern slopes, offering spectacular views stretching toward the Kenya-Tanzania border.
The journey to Pofu Camp showcases some of the most untouched and peaceful mountain scenery on Kilimanjaro, making it ideal for travelers seeking an exclusive trekking experience.

Barafu Camp
Pofu Camp to Third Cave
Today’s trek continues along the remote northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro as you ascend Buffalo Ridge and proceed toward Third Cave Camp.
This route is known for its open landscapes, dramatic mountain views, and excellent acclimatization profile. By this point, most climbers begin feeling well adjusted to the altitude.
The afternoon is perfect for rest, photography, and enjoying incredible views of Mawenzi Peak, one of Kilimanjaro’s most striking volcanic summits.

School Hut
Third Cave to School Hut
This is one of the most important acclimatization days before the summit push.
The route crosses the famous Kibo Saddle, a vast high-altitude desert plain between Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. The landscape here is surreal and almost lunar, offering unforgettable scenery.
Upon arrival at School Hut, you will have an early meal and rest before your midnight summit attempt. Your guides from Joyful Safaris and Tours will provide a full summit briefing and ensure you are fully prepared for the final ascent.

Mweka
Summit Day – Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
This is the most challenging and rewarding day of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
Starting just after midnight, you will climb under the stars toward Gilman’s Point, continue along the crater rim past Stella Point, and finally reach the iconic Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) — the highest point in Africa.
Watching the sunrise from the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is an unforgettable moment and one of the greatest achievements for any traveler visiting Tanzania.
After celebrating at the summit and capturing incredible photos, you will descend via Barafu Camp and continue down to Mweka Camp for your final overnight stay on the mountain.
This day typically involves 14–16 hours of trekking.

Departure
Mweka Gate – Return to Gran Meliá Arusha
After breakfast, you will descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where your summit certificates will be issued.
Your Joyful Safaris and Tours driver will then transfer you back to Gran Meliá Arusha, where a hot shower, comfortable room, and well-deserved relaxation await.
This marks the successful completion of your unforgettable Mount Kilimanjaro Northern Circuit luxury climb in Tanzania.
